30,000 smackeroos from Sport Ireland Dormant Accounts Fund

Great news for Vision Sports Ireland as we receive €30,000 from Sports Ireland’s allocation under the 2017 Dormant Accounts funding programme.

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Brendan Griffin TD has announced almost half a million euros worth of funding for National Physical Activity Plan Initiatives supported through National Governing Bodies for Sport. This forms part of an overall purse of almost 3 million euros for sport and physical activity projects through the Dormant Accounts Fund.

We are delighted to announce thatt for the first time ever Vision Sports Ireland will receive a grant of €30,000 toward an education and coaching programme for the four sports of cycling, running, swimming and participation. In addition, as secondary partners we will benefits significantly from the Tennis Ireland Enjoy Tennis programme which also received €30,000.

Speaking at the announcement in Killarney today, Minister Griffin said: “The funding of €2.9m being announced today will support the delivery of sport and physical activity initiatives across the country under the National Physical Activity Plan. The comprehensive programme of initiative support through this funding allocation will give people with disabilities and those from socially, economically and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to take part in sport and physical activity.  This range of initiatives is as a result of close cooperation between my department, Sport Ireland, the Local Sports Partnership Network and the National Governing Bodies for Sport.”

Welcoming the €30,000 funding Vision Sports Chairperson Joe Geraghty says “We’re over the moon.  Really looking forward to working with our main partner Eamonn Tilley at Para-Triathlon Ireland as well as our great friends and partners at NCBI, St. Joseph’s in Drumcondra and Paralympics Ireland who   provided us with lots of support during the application process Let’s not forget also the benefits gained from being secondary partners with Tennis Ireland last year, a programme which will now run into 2018 and maybe beyond. No excuses now to get out and at all these wonderful sports.”.

National Physical Activity Plan Initiatives supported through National Governing Bodies for Sport

Sport Ireland invited applications from NGBs for funding under the Dormant Account Fund to support actions in the National Physical Activity Plan for implementing programmes to promote physical activity & Develop Programmes to address transitions and drop out from physical activity.
